TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi suggested on Saturday night that the Europeans can hold talks with the Islamic Republic on the Ukraine war to resolve their concerns.
“If the Europeans have concerns about the Ukraine issue they can enter talks with us,” Araghchi told the national TV.
Araghchi said Tehran is ready for talks with the Europeans to “clear up misunderstandings”.
Elsewhere in his talks, the foreign minister said the JCPOA, the official name for the 2015 nuclear deal, which was abandoned by the Trump administration in 2018 and the Europeans failed to abide by it “is still a proper framework to lead us to a new agreement.”
The new foreign minister went on to say that it is a “reality” that the United States is not ready for dialogue on crafting a new nuclear deal.
“No country is ready for serious negotiations at the time of elections,” Araghchi pointed out.
He was referring to the November 4 presidential elections between Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and her Republican rival Donald Trump.
Araghchi also said if it would be necessary Iran is ready to enter nuclear talks with the Europeans.
“If necessary, we will start negotiations with the Europeans,” he noted.
